Wowzers! That was a tough one to watch.

From the opening minutes to even stoppage time of the second half, very little to nothing was going in favor of the Los Angeles Galaxy. The New York Red Bulls won Saturday's contest by a score of 7-0.

Surprisingly, the defending MLS Cup champions did well in some areas of the game against last year's Finals opponent. The LA Galaxy held possession almost 7% longer than the Red Bulls did.

Furthermore, the worst team in the MLS Western Conference managed to get six of their 16 shot attempts on target. Their six corner kicks were four more than their opponents.

Unfortunately, these blemishes put the LA Galaxy in the record book.

1. Seven goals surrendered in one game.

The largest blowout prior to Saturday's game was 5-0 back in 2002. This is when the NY Red Bulls were still the New York/New Jersey MetroStars.

Since 2006, when the team switched to the Red Bulls after being purchased, the Los Angeles Galaxy has suffered six shutout losses against New York. The seven goals were the most given up by either team when they faced one another.

2. Another own goal adds to the Galaxy's misery.

In addition to the Red Bulls scoring six times, veteran defender Miki Yamane had an own goal in the final minutes of the game. This is the second game in a row where the LA Galaxy have recorded an own goal.

During their first game in May, the Los Angeles Galaxy's own goal by captain Maya Yoshida was the only score on the board. That led to the six-time MLS Cup winners losing 1-0 against Sporting KC.

No defending MLS Cup champion has ever had back-to-back games with an own goal.

3. LA Galaxy open up 30th MLS season with the worst start ever.

In the 29 seasons before this one, no team has ever gone their first twelve games without recording a win. Had CF Montreal not won 1-0 against NYFC on Saturday night, they too would have accomplished this lowly feat.

But instead, the LA Galaxy are the only team to open up a season losing or tying every one of their first dozen games to begin a season. What's even more shocking and disappointing for the Los Angeles Galaxy is that they are the defending champions.

What to make of this disaster season for the LA Galaxy?

Injuries have definitely affected this roster. From Riqui Puig to Joseph Paintsil, and veteran defenders Yoshida and Yamane, hardly anyone has been healthy all season.

Furthermore, the number of newcomers has surely shaken up the team when it comes to the field chemistry. The product that LA Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz has put together is a poor crop. Head coach Greg Vanney has yet to get anything solid out of them for a full 90 minutes during the season.

"This is a horrible night we've had, you know, on rare occasions through the courses of a season you have an absolute sh-tter, and tonight we did. But in every game prior to this we've been in every game and we've competed in every game. If the margin has been one goal in most of these and, I am not excusing it but tonight, it just totally got away from us. That's something we have to address and address quickly."Greg Vanney, Head Coach of the LA Galaxy

The Los Angeles Galaxy have scored just eight times in their first 12 games. They have allowed an average of more than 2 goals a game. Thus, their goal-differential is a league worst -20 entering Wednesday's match against the Philadelphia Union.
