Manchester United are interested in Ben Chilwell as they look for a new left back to provide competition for Luke Shaw according to reports.

Chilwell joined Chelsea in 2020 from Leicester in a deal worth £50m and established himself as a key player at Stamford Bridge.

He thrived at left wing back under Thomas Tuchel and was part of the side that won the Champions League in 2021, but his time in west London has been plagued by injury.

United interested in Chilwell

The 27-year-old has suffered a number of serious injuries including an ACL and was sidelined for a large part of last season with a hamstring injury.

Chilwell was named vice captain by Mauricio Pochettino at the start of the last campaign and the England international is one of the most experienced members of the squad, as well as being one of the few who know what it’s like to win trophies with the Blues.

Manchester United have expressed an interest in Chilwell.

However, questions have emerged over his future as he’s struggled to rediscover his best form, and Enzo Maresca’s style of play doesn’t seem to suit Chilwell’s characteristics.

Whilst it’s unclear if Chilwell wants to leave or what Chelsea’s asking price would be, Mail Sport have reported that United have the former Leicester man among their options as they look for a new left back to provide competition for Luke Shaw.

Chelsea currently have Chilwell and Cucurella as the senior left backs in the squad, and are on the verge of signing Renato Veiga from FC Basel, who they see filling the role of a left back who can invert into midfield.

Cucurella has proven he can perform that role, and if a left back were to leave this summer it would make more sense for it to be Chilwell.

Chilwell has made 106 appearances for the Blues to date, scoring nine goals and providing 12 assists, and providing he’s still here he will have the opportunity to impress Maresca on the pre-season tour of America later this month.
