FC Barcelona and Deco will be working behind the scenes to secure contract renewals for key first-team players. Crucial figures like Ronald Araújo, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Gavi all have contracts set to expire in 2026, and the club will be eager to extend their deals to ensure their long-term future at the Catalan capital.

Renewals for the latter two are expected to be relatively straightforward, and it may only be a matter of time before they extend their deals. However, the contract negotiations for the other two players could prove to be more complex.

Among them, Frenkie’s renewal could pose the biggest challenge for the club. Despite being at Barcelona for over half a decade, the Dutchman has yet to fully win over the fanbase with his performances.

De Jong recently addressed his contract situation in an interview with Voetbal, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo. The 27-year-old remained relatively non-committal, stating that his primary focus for now is simply on playing football.

“My contract renewal is a topic for the local newspapers, but it isn’t for me. I want to play football, and afterward, I’ll see what the club wants to do with me, and then I’ll decide what I want to do along with my agent and my family.”

Frenkie’s comments remain as cryptic as ever, offering no clear indication of his intentions. With limited time left on his current contract, Barcelona may have to consider selling him if an extension is not agreed upon.

The problem with Frenkie de Jong is that his stock has hit an all-time low since his breakthrough at Ajax. 2024 has been a challenging year for the Dutchman, plagued by persistent injuries, and he has yet to return to his top form.

The sooner Frenkie and Barcelona reach an agreement on a new contract, the easier it will be for the Dutchman to win over the fans. The relationship is currently in a precarious situation, and it remains to be seen how the former Ajax star’s future at the Catalan club unfolds.
