A move back to Swansea City may be the career resurgence that Michael Obafemi needs after a tough time at Burnley

It's been a productive transfer window this summer for Swansea City, as the club looks to progress in Alan Sheehan's first season in charge of the club.

The Swans ended last season on a high, picking up the fourth-most points in the division since Sheehan was appointed caretaker boss in mid-February, and conceding the second-lowest number of goals.

So far this summer, Cameron Burgess has been brought in to help bolster that already impressive defence, especially given Harry Darling's departure, and Ethan Galbraith has looked incredibly bright in midfield in the infancy of 2025/26, but there can always be room for improvement.

Josh Tymon is the only true left-back at the club and, whilst impressive, arguably needs some competition in his position.

And one position that could also do with some healthy competition is up top, as Swans fans wait for both Zan Vipotnik and Liam Cullen to fully explode in front of goal.

Here are a couple of players, one in either position, whom Alan Sheehan could look to bring in over the next week.

Michael Obafemi

Michael Obafemi has had a tough time as of late since he made the move to Burnley in January 2023 from Swansea.

He played a small part in their eventual promotion under Vincent Kompany that season, but since then has played just twice for the Clarets, and has netted just four times across two loan spells at Millwall and Plymouth Argyle, the latter seeing him part of a side relegated to League One.

The Irishman needs a change of scenery, and what better way to provide that than in the side where the best numbers of his career have come, netting 11 in just 20 starts, and 12 throughout the whole season, during the 2021/22 Championship campaign.

Obafemi saw the goals dry up in the first-half of his second season at the Swansea.com Stadium before joining the Clarets, although his opening campaign with the club was memorable and he became a hugely popular figure among the Jack Army faithful, helped in no small part by his brace in Swansea's historic 4-0 demolition of fierce rivals Cardiff City, away from home, in the South Wales Derby.

As for Swansea, so far this season they've been involved in a 1-0 defeat, a 1-0 win and a 1-1 draw. Tough to break down, but lacking that firepower up top.

Liam Cullen has been the main man up top through three games, and Swansea fans hope that Zan Vipotnik nets more than his seven last season, after scoring off the bench against Watford on Saturday, but Obafemi would bring some extra pace and dynamism up front that the Swans may need.

Leo Hjelde

Josh Tymon was a great option last season for Swansea at left-back and was one of the better attacking full-backs in the second tier. He's played every minute of the 2025/26 Championship campaign so far, and missed just one game last term, starting 44 times in the league.

Therefore, any potential incomings at left-back would simply serve to provide cover, and Sunderland's Leo Hjelde could be a solid option.

Last season, the Norwegian started just five games and was an unused substitute in 27 separate Championship matches. His inclusion throughout the play-offs was simply to consolidate wins provided by late goals.

Sunderland have signed two left-backs this summer to contend with the impressive Dennis Cirkin, so whilst Reinildo and Arthur Masuaku are around, Hjelde likely won't get any game time at the Stadium of Light.

Additionally, at 6-foot-2, the 21-year-old can provide useful cover at centre-back if needs be, so would be a useful signing for Alan Sheehan, if he was looking at bolstering the backline some more between now and the beginning of next month.
