2 players Middlesbrough should sign before the transfer window closes on September 1st.
Middlesbrough have got off to a faultless start in the Championship this season, winning all three of their opening matches, but their squad isn't quite complete just yet.
After Michael Carrick's dismissal at the conclusion of the 2024/25 campaign, Boro brought in former Luton Town and Watford boss Rob Edwards, who has overseen a 100 per cent league record in their opening three matches.
The summer has been a very busy window for the Teesside outfit, with key departures such as Rav van den Berg being the main talking point, and the futures of Hayden Hackney and Finn Azaz still very much up in the air.
However, the Welsh manager has been busy in the market already to ensure his side is in a much better place than Carrick's squad which finished last season, and with a week left of the window, he seemingly isn't done just yet.
With that in mind, Football League World decided to evaluate two players that Middlesbrough should bring to the Riverside Stadium in the final week of the summer transfer window.
One position that could do with strengthening before the end of the window is in between the sticks, as Boro's current crop of goalkeepers, Seny Dieng, Tom Glover, and Sol Brynn respectively, aren't exactly standouts at Championship level.
Brynn is certainly an ascending young goalkeeper, and the local lad has clearly won the starting job under Edwards, but Dieng and Glover haven't proven to be the most reliable of options at second tier level during their respective time on Teesside so far.
Therefore, a player they could look to bring in to really push Brynn is Chicago Fire goalkeeper Chris Brady, who has made 85 appearances and counting in the MLS since 2021, at the young age of just 21.
The American is highly-rated in the States, and has previously been called up for the National Team, but is yet to earn his first cap for his country, as he eyes a switch of allegiance to Scotland.
With that in mind, a move to England could be a great idea for the young shot-stopper, as playing for a club like Middlesbrough towards the sharp end of the Championship is more likely to catch the eye of the Scottish national side than if he was playing in the MLS.
As for Boro, this deal also makes sense, as they get a highly-rated young goalkeeper through the door who fits the club's recruitment model and who has the potential to go on and be a top player, which they could reap the rewards of in the short and long-term.
Brady is a huge upgrade on what Edwards has already got at his disposal, behind Brynn, and comes with excellent levels of experience at a young age.
With the 21-year-old's eyes set on a Scotland call-up, a move just south of the border makes perfect sense for him as well.
Edwards has already hinted that he wants to add to his front line this summer, following the departures of Emmanuel Latte Lath and Josh Coburn this year, leaving Tommy Conway as Boro's only out-and-out striker.
One man already linked with a switch to the Riverside Stadium is ex-Juventus prodigy Kaly Sene, who is currently plying his trade for Lausanne in the Swiss Super League, with six goals in eight appearances in all competitions already this season.
The striker has been a reliable outlet for goals in Switzerland over the past few years, and now looks like he's closing in on a move to England to become the striker that Edwards was crying out for.
Middlesbrough must ensure they get this deal over the line, as they currently run thin on the ground with Conway the only recognised striker at the club, so Sene will bring competition and cover for the Scotsman.
The Senegalese striker is quick, strong, and has a good eye for goal, which is exactly what Edwards is looking for in a striker, making him a very similar type of player to Conway, who is thriving under the Welshman.
At only 24, Sene still has plenty of room for growth, and could be another player who Boro could look to make a profit in a few years' time, and could also enable some fringe forward players such as Marcus Forss, Sonny Finch or Micah Hamilton to leave the club.
