Manchester United have been handed a thrilling boost with the long-awaited return of academy prodigy Shea Lacey.
The 17-year-old is a highly-rated attacking midfielder who is touted to have a big future.
Though a string of injuries has hampered his progress over the past year, Lacey’s immense potential has kept United supporters eagerly awaiting his full recovery.
Despite the setbacks, the fans continue to hold firm in their belief that Lacey is among the most gifted players to emerge from Carrington in recent years.
He made a brief return in October, netting a brace off the bench in a 4-3 loss to Tottenham Hotspur Under-18.
Unfortunately, another injury forced him back onto the sidelines.
Lacey made his much-awaited return in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool u18s today.
He came off the bench in the second half and made an instant impact.
Lacey delivered a sensational cameo, and with a little more luck, he could have had three goal involvements.
In the 74th minute, the starlet unleashed a stunning curling shot aimed at the top left corner, only for Liverpool’s keeper to pull off a superb save and turn it behind for a corner.
Undeterred, Lacey tried again with a similar left-footed effort, cutting inside from the right, but this time his shot narrowly missed the post.
Spurs looked genuinely rattled whenever Lacey had the ball and the space to showcase his sharp vision and flair.
He could have easily registered an assist when he whipped in a pinpoint cross to Victor Musa, but the young forward’s shot was thwarted by the goalkeeper.
The teenager is a versatile talent, equally at home as an attacking midfielder or on the right wing.
With exceptional technical ability and an impressive vision for creating chances, Lacey has all the tools to become a key playmaker.
Had injuries not interrupted his progress, he’d likely be on the brink of making his senior debut by now.
If he can stay injury-free and deliver standout performances, he’ll undoubtedly capture the attention of manager Ruben Amorim.
