27th May, 2025 was a significant day for FC Barcelona as they managed to tie down the biggest football talent in the world at the moment to a new contract that would see him extend his stay at the club until at least 2031.
It is sometimes easy to take a renewal for granted but this is a pivotal moment that could decide the fate of the next decade at Barcelona. Lamine has already emerged as one of Hansi Flick’s most important players in the team, despite being just 17.
At this point, the age seems irrelevant. Lamine is already one of the best players in the world and even the Inter Milan stars admitted that he was the toughest player they had faced all season. Despite not yet being 18, the Spaniard has the world at his feet.

Now, as per Mundo Deportivo, Lamine Yamal’s new contract with Barcelona that he signed yesterday includes a Ballon d’Or clause that would see him earn a bonus, should he lift that coveted trophy any time in the near future.
This bonus clause in his contract is similar to the one Lionel Messi had in his contract with Barcelona. In the Argentine’s case, it was dependent on winning FIFA the best award but it is fair to say that the veteran broke all kinds of records during his time here.
Keeping in line with recent renewals at the club, Barcelona simply announced that Lamine had signed a new deal without revealing the release clause in his new contract but it is understood that the 17-year-old has retained his €1billion release clause.
The report mentions that Lamine requested for the photographs of the renewal to not be distributed, as is the norm, due to his paternal grandmother not being present, among other reasons. That can has been kicked down the road to after his 18th birthday.

Lamine has had a brilliant 2024/25 season that has seen him take the step up to becoming the best player in the world from the best young talent in the world. However, he will be the first one to know that the next season will be even more important.
With a Ballon d’Or clause in his new deal and international duty on the horizon with Spain, the road ahead promises high expectations. For now, though, a well-earned rest awaits, a chance to recharge before continuing his rise in a Barcelona shirt.
