The Eagles were the lowest scorers in last season’s Barclays Women’s Super League as their stay in the top tier lasted just 12 months.
Crystal Palace appointed Potter as their new boss over the summer and she has been tasked with guiding the South Londoners back to the top flight at the first attempt. When speaking to WSL Full-Time, midfielder Green said that Potter’s Crystal Palace will go into games with an emphasis on attack.
“She is a very front-footed, attack-minded coach,” Green said. “I think you’ll see a different Crystal Palace this year.
“She’s got some really good detail for us as players. Every day, you’re learning something new and picking stuff up. Having been a player before, she understands what we need as players as well.
“It has been a hard pre-season but a good and productive one.”
Up to three Barclays WSL2 clubs could win promotion this season and Green is excited to help Crystal Palace put themselves amongst the leading pack.
She said “All of us will back ourselves to finish high up in the table, we know we’ve got the quality in the squad to do that.
“It’s going to be an exciting season. There’s going to be some competitive games; you can see that the league is progressing year-on-year and the teams are progressing within that as well. It’s an exciting league to be a part of and I’m looking forward to seeing us push on this year.”
A whole host of clubs will fancy their chances of winning promotion and Green says that sharp counter-attacking play could be key for Crystal Palace in the race for Barclays Women’s Super League football.
She said “Games are going to be tough, they’re going to be tight, so putting in work on those defensive transitions, making sure that when we get the opportunity to go forward, we can capitalise and be ruthless in our counter-attacking [will be key]. That’s going to be crucial in our success this season and I think we have the foundations for that going forward. I’m looking forward to seeing us play this year.”
If Crystal Palace are to push for promotion, they will need the support of their fans. Green believes that the supporters are some of the best in the women’s game.
She said “When my family come [to watch], they say that they’re the best fans, they’re the most fun and create the best atmosphere.
“It’s so nice to have a community feel at the games as well, you see the same familiar faces. Hopefully, we can build on our attendances this season and get more people down to watch some good games.”
Crystal Palace kick-off the new Barclays WSL2 season with a fixture at Charlton Athletic on Sunday 7 September 2025.
