Real Madrid are expected to make big moves in the summer transfer window following a disappointing 2024/25 season.
In fact, according to MARCA, incoming manager Xabi Alonso has already identified Florian Wirtz as a top target as he prepares to reshape the squad and bring the club back to the top of La Liga and the Champions League.
With the team falling short this season, especially in midfield, reinforcements are now a priority. Real Madrid’s defence is already being strengthened with names like Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold and possibly Alvaro Carreras.
But the midfield needs fresh energy and long-term vision, something Wirtz can offer.
Luka Modric is expected to stay for another season, something Alonso reportedly wants. But the Croatian maestro will turn 40 in September, and relying on him for a full season is simply not practical. That is where Wirtz comes in.

At just 22, Wirtz is already one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe. His price tag, however, reflects that. With a valuation north of €100 million, signing him would require a major investment.
Interestingly, reports from Spain now suggest Real Madrid are preparing to make a ‘Galactico’ signing this summer, one that would cost in excess of €100 million. Although the identity of that player has not been confirmed, all signs point toward Wirtz.
It is worth noting that Bayern Munich are reportedly in the lead for Wirtz, but the arrival of Alonso could change things.
The Spaniard’s past with both Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen could play a key role in convincing the youngster to join Los Blancos instead.
At this stage, Real Madrid have not made a final decision, but talks are ongoing internally. If they go ahead with a blockbuster signing, Wirtz appears to be the prime candidate to lead their midfield into a new era.
