Despite the recent signing of Dean Huijsen and the anticipated return of Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militao from injury, Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso is pushing for further reinforcements at the heart of defence.

According to an update from Fichajes, Alonso has personally drawn up a three-man shortlist of defenders who fit his tactical demands and vision for the future.

The three targets currently under consideration are Ibrahima Konate (Liverpool), Piero Hincapie (Bayer Leverkusen), and Cristian Romero (Tottenham Hotspur).

Each offers a unique profile, but all share the qualities Alonso is seeking, versatility, strength, and tactical intelligence.

Hincapie: A familiar face

Among the trio, Piero Hincapie holds a special place on Alonso’s list. The Ecuadorian defender worked under the Spanish coach at Bayer Leverkusen, and his adaptability across the back line makes him an ideal candidate.

Hincapie is comfortable playing in a back three or four, and can also fill in at left-back when needed, an asset that fits Alonso’s dynamic defensive approach.

His understanding of positional play and ball progression stands out, especially within a team that thrives on building from the back.

Konate: A powerful option

Konate’s situation at Liverpool is also drawing interest. The French international has reportedly rejected Liverpool’s first renewal offer, with negotiations now on hold.

His camp is believed to be demanding a higher fixed salary, citing his increasing responsibility within the team. Liverpool, on the other hand, are reluctant to break their wage structure.

This impasse has alerted top clubs, including Real Madrid, who are monitoring the situation closely. Konate’s blend of athleticism and experience makes him a natural fit for a team competing on all fronts.

Romero: A market opportunity

Romero, meanwhile, has expressed a clear desire to leave Tottenham this summer. The Argentine World Cup winner is viewed by Madrid as a potential market opportunity.

Known for his aggression, aerial dominance, and leadership, Romero would bring immediate grit and edge to Real Madrid’s defence.

His availability adds intrigue, especially with Spurs expected to reshape their squad under new manager Thomas Frank.
