Five-goal thriller sees Liverpool come out on top over Spurs

Scorers: Kapocs 10′, Höbinger 75′ 90+5 (PEN); Hinds (OG) 54′, Hunt 83′

Liverpool recorded their first win of the WSL season with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Tottenham.

Matt Beard’s side went ahead early on when Cornelia Kapocs scored her first WSL goal in some style, launching a 30-yard rocket beyond Rebecca Spencer.

Tottenham levelled the scores when Jess Naz put a cross into the box that was unfortunately turned in by Liverpool’s Taylor Hinds.

A superb free kick from Marie Höbinger put the Reds back in front, but the home side once again fought back and the equaliser came when Clare Hunt forced her way into the box and scored with a deflected effort.

There was more drama in this game that had so many twists and turns as Liverpool were awarded a stoppage time penalty, that was tucked away by Höbinger with almost the last kick of the game.

First WSL victory for Palace as Leicester in trouble

Scorers: Blanchard 55′, 68′ (PEN)

A brace from Annabel Blanchard gave Crystal Palace their first ever WSL win with a 2-0 victory over struggling Leicester.

The newly-promoted side took the lead through a neat one-two and finish from Annabel Blanchard, who netted 11 goals in 19 Championship appearances for Palace on their way to promotion last season.

After conceding 11 goals in their first two WSL matches, Palace had their tails up, and Blanchard added her second from the spot after Ruby Mace had brought down Lexi Potter in the box.

The Foxes rallied late on, but couldn’t offer anything to prevent an 11th consecutive league defeat.

Lauren Hemp sets record as Man City beat West Ham

Scorers: Hemp 10′, Fowler 71′

Manchester City delivered a straightforward 2-0 home win over West Ham ahead of their UWCL tie with Barcelona in midweek.

England’s Lauren Hemp opened the scoring for the home side, finishing neatly from inside the box.

Into the second half and substitute Bunny Shaw showed great composure in the box to cross for Mary Fowler, who rose well to head home Man City’s second.

Arsenal labour to goalless draw with Everton

Arsenal once again looked sub-par in domestic action as they laboured to a 0-0 with Everton.

In the first half, Emily Fox smashed a shot against the bar and Kyra Cooney-Cross hit her effort just wide.

Everton had an excellent chance of their own too, when Veatriki Sarri unleashed an attempt from distance which was only kept out by a superb Daphne Van Domselaar that tipped the shot onto the bar.

The Gunners pushed for a winner as the clock ticked over to the 90th minute, but Caitlin Foord could only hit the bar with her effort on the half-volley.

There is Champions League action to look forward to next week as Chelsea face Real Madrid and Man City are up against Barcelona.
