Gabriela Salgado underwent successful surgery on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, following an injury sustained during the semi-final of the 2024 Women's AFCON against Nigeria. The procedure took place in Rabat, where the South African international is currently recovering.

Salgado went under the knife earlier today, Wednesday, at the Mohamed VI University Hospital in Casablanca, Morocco. This came just one day after the semi-final clash between South Africa and Nigeria on July 22, a match that ended in favor of the Super Falcons (2-1). The Banyana Banyana midfielder was forced to leave the pitch at Stade Larbi Zaouli late in the second half due to injury. According to the South African team doctor, Gabriela Salgado suffered a fracture in the middle of her left leg.

"She will be sidelined for the remainder of the year, but we are grateful that she received outstanding care from the Banyana Banyana medical team, CAF, and the hospital staff. We were completely confident and at ease with the procedure performed in Morocco, and we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to CAF and the dedicated staff at Mohamed VI University Hospital for their professionalism and exceptional support during this time," said Dr. Lindi Mokoena.

Upon hearing the news, Nigerian players visited Gabriela Salgado to show their support.
