OPPOSING MANAGER - VITOR PEREIRA

Wolves were second from bottom in the Premier League standings when Pereira arrived at Molineux last December, but the 56-year-old masterminded a remarkable turnaround in the second part of the season, earning him a nomination for the Manager of the Season award.

The Portuguese has formed a special bond with the Wolves faithful already and made headlines by celebrating some victories in a local pub with supporters last season.

Pereira has held 13 managerial positions in his career to date, winning back-to-back league titles with Porto in 2012 and 2013, before guiding Greek giants Olympiacos to the Super League title in 2015.

He went on to claim more silverware in the Chinese Super League, winning the league title with Shanghai SIPG in 2018 and then joined Wolves from Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab.

Pereira deployed a 3-4-2-1 system in every match for Wolves last season and is expected to use the same formation this term.

DANGER MEN

With last season’s top scorer Matheus Cunha leaving for Manchester United and influential full-back Rayan Ait-Nouri joining Pep’s side in the summer, Wolves will turn to Jorgen Strand Larsen to produce the goods this term.

Erling Haaland and Oscar Bobb already know plenty about the tall Norwegian striker, who contributed an impressive 14 goals and four assists in the league last season, including one against City.

The 25-year-old is a nuisance in the air and has the capability to make darting runs in behind defenders, but his impressive adaptability and towering frame means he can switch his play style into a target man, holding the ball up to allow his team to get up the pitch.

New signing Jhon Arias, who recently arrived from Fluminense after making 102 goal contributions in four seasons for the Brazilian side, is also one to keep a close eye on.

The tricky attacker can operate in any position across the frontline and has 31 caps for Colombia.

He was a standout performer in the 2025 Club World Cup, helping his side to the semi-finals with Player of the Match displays in three separate fixtures, earning him a place in the Team of the Tournament.

PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW

Pep Guardiola will be facing the media for the pre-match press conference from 13:30 (UK) on Friday 15 August, where the City boss will provide all the latest team news updates and you can follow it live on mancity.com and our official app.

Don't worry if you are unable to watch Pep’s press conference as it happens as we'll have a written review and video recap soon after it has concluded.

PREVIOUS MEETING

Our last trip to Molineux came in October last year and included one of the most dramatic late winners in recent City history.

The hosts had taken an early lead thanks to a fifth minute strike from Strand Larsen. But City hit back to level thanks to a stunning 32nd minute 20-yard effort from Josko Gvardiol.

Pep Guardiola’s side were also denied by a series of superb saves by Wolves keeper Jose Sa.

But just as it appeared we would have to settle for a share of the spoils, John Stones powered home a dramatic 95th minute header - the goal awarded after a lengthy VAR check after initially having been disallowed for offside.

The result meant City set a new Club landmark of going 31 games unbeaten in the Premier League.

In the reverse fixture towards the end of the campaign, Kevin De Bruyne marked his penultimate Etihad appearance by scoring the only goal to clinch a hard-fought 1-0 win.

LAST TIME OUT

Pep's side secured a 3-0 victory over fellow CFG side Palermo to lift the Anglo Palermitan Trophy in Sicily.

Tijjani Reijnders scored twice whilst Erling Haaland also got his name on the scoresheet in a comfortable victory.
