Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has admitted that he made a considerable mistake in his tactical setup for the club’s most recent outing.

This of course comes with Los Blancos fresh off an evening to forget on Wednesday.

After making the trip to New Jersey for a Club World Cup semi-final showdown with Champions League holder Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid were ultimately condemned to the wrong side of a 4-0 result.

The outcome was all but decided inside the opening 25 minutes, as PSG ran out to a three-goal advantage.

The aforementioned Xabi Alonso for his part set up with an all-out attacking approach at MetLife Stadium, utilising all of Vinícius Jr, Kylian Mbappé and Gonzalo García from the off.

Safe to say, however, that as much did not work out as planned, as Real Madrid struggled to secure any sort of foothold in proceedings.

Speaking to the media in his post-match press conference, Los Blancos’ headmaster was therefore questioned on whether he feels as though he was at fault for his side’s lack of structure and compactness on Wednesday.

And Alonso did not hesitate in responding:

“Did I make a mistake by starting 3 attackers tonight? Yes, without a doubt.”
