Southampton boss Will Still declared himself satisfied with his team's gritty performance following a 1–1 draw away to Ipswich, insisting that the point was a fair outcome after a battling display.
The Saints fell behind inside four minutes, punished for a trio of mishaps that gifted the hosts an early lead.
Yet, it did not take long for Southampton to respond. A well-worked equaliser arrived to steady the ship, with 18-year-old Jay Robinson heading in his first senior goal — a landmark moment that helped shift the momentum.
Still was full of praise for the way his side reacted. “If you can't win that sort of game, it’s good not to lose it,” he remarked. He pointed out that the defensive lapse which led to Ipswich's opener was frustrating, but found comfort in the team's response under pressure.
"The first-half performance was really encouraging — we showed glimpses of who we want to be and how we want to play,” he reflected. Despite conceding early, the Saints remained composed, and the morale boost from that no-1 strike was clear.
Southampton pressed forward in the second half, with Sammie Szmodics rattling the post and Jay Robinson nearly doubling his tally soon after. Even in stoppage time, Connor Chaplin came close with a header that flashed over the bar.
Still highlighted the changing demeanour within the squad: “If we’d played that game three or four months ago, we probably would’ve crumbled and lost it 3–0. We’ve got back into it with a great, great goal — really impressed by the way we scored that.”
He acknowledged Ipswich’s physicality and added that fatigue set in during the second half, a natural consequence of playing away at tough venues. Nevertheless, he remained upbeat: “We’re still unbeaten, and that’s a positive.”
Despite late pressure, the Saints stood firm. “I think it was a pretty fair result in the end,” Will Still concluded, his confidence buoyed by his team’s resilience and response to adversity.
