Sarina Wiegman says she hopes Chelsea duo Millie Bright and Lauren James will be ready for the Euros this summer.

Bright withdrew from the England squad to play Portugal and Spain in the Nations League due to being what she described as “mentally and physically at my limits”.

And Wiegman says it is important for Bright to take care of herself before making an England return.

“She has to take care of herself,” the England boss said.

“We are in conversation. We will stay in contact and I hope she feels better soon but I don’t know that yet at the moment.

“I just hope that this break, she can have the time and takes the time that will help her to get settled again.”

Wiegman is also hopeful that Bright’s Chelsea team-mate James could yet feature in the Euros, having been sidelined since last month with a hamstring injury.

“She is in a good place in rehab,” Wiegman said. “She has ticked the boxes she needs to tick and we are progressing her. We hope she keeps moving forward and can join the team later on.”

Both Alessia Russo and Ella Toone will miss Friday’s international against Portugal because of injury but Wiegman says they are not serious issues.

“Alessia is not ready for tomorrow,” she said. “They [Alessia Russo and Ella Toone] are not long-term injuries. We’re taking care of them.”

Wiegman also says she is “gutted” for Tottenham’s Ella Morris after suffering a serious knee injury in training.

“That is awful,” she said. “She came in and did really well. It was a no contact injury and unfortunately she tore her ACL. She is devastated and we are devastated. We wish her a good rehab. That was a shock when that happened.”
