The Stadio Meazza in San Siro is not sold out for Milan‘s Champions League game against Liverpool tonight. According to reports in Italy, this is mostly due to ticket prices and the Rossoneri’s slow start in Serie A.
Milan did not sell out the Stadio Meazza, commonly known as San Siro, for Tuesday’s 2024-25 Champions League opener against Liverpool.
Reports in Italy claim that only 55,000 tickets have been sold for the first European game of the season, while the stadium’s capacity is circa 75,000. Repubblica and Il Corriere della Sera newspapers believe that the low attendance for the match against Liverpool has two leading causes.
First, ticket prices for Milan’s first Champions League game of the season were pretty high, starting from €89 in the third tier. According to Repubblica, costs for Milan home games have increased from 25% to 40% over the last three seasons, leaving fans unimpressed.
Milan’s poor start to the season has probably had an impact, too. On Saturday, the Rossoneri won the first competitive match of 2024-25, beating Venezia 4-0 at San Siro, but they had collected just two points in the opening three Serie A games of the campaign before the international break, drawing against Torino and Lazio and losing to Parma.
