The powers that be at La Liga giants Real Madrid have requested star attacker Kylian Mbappé not to attend the impending Madrid Derby.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, citing L’Équipe, who have on Sunday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in the Spanish capital.

The headline fixture of the weekend in La Liga is of course set to play out later tonight.

The matchup in question will see Madrid rivalries renewed, in a showdown between Diego Simeone’s Atlético, and reigning Spanish champions Real.

The aforementioned Mbappé will play no part in what would have been his first Madrid Derby, owing to a thigh injury suffered earlier this week.

The Frenchman had nevertheless planned to make the short trip to the Metropolitano, though, to show his support for his teammates.

But, as per L’Équipe, such plans on Mbappé’s part have since been stopped in their tracks.

As per MD:

‘Real Madrid itself have convinced the player not to go in order to ‘avoid any altercation with the public given the atmosphere in the hours leading up to the game’.’
