Who knows what Manchester City fans are thinking…

I sometimes wonder about Manchester City fans.

What they are thinking.

These Newcastle United fans now making me wonder even more about the Manchester City fans.

Ahead of Sunday’s match against Brighton, I don’t get the feeling that all of Tyneside is gripped by FA Cup excitement.

Manchester City fans must have had a feeling that they could dominate forever more.

All those trophies after coming from nowhere.

Just these past seven seasons, Manchester City fans seeing their team win six Premier League titles (and one runners up) plus a Champions League trophy, two FA Cups and four League Cups. That is 13 major trophies just the last seven seasons, without even counting the years before that following their takeover. Now those Manchester City fans ‘reduced’ to wondering if they can qualify for the Champions League, with the FA Cup their only chance at all of a trophy this season.

Before last season, Newcastle United had only got past the FA Cup fourth round on a single occasion since 2006.

Yet already, it feels like a lot of Newcastle United fans aren’t getting any kind of cup fever ahead of this Brighton last 16 fifth round match.

Even though a win today would mean just another victory away from going to Wembley in the FA Cup, which of course could see an FA Cup semi-final visit AND an FA Cup final one.

Yes, I know we have a League Cup final in two weeks time BUT NUFC fans shouldn’t be in any way taking this all for granted. Certainly not already.

What happens if we get the success Manchester City fans have seen…???

Will it be FA Cup semis at Wembley aren’t that special, maybe even eventually FA Cup finals?!!

The reason Newcastle United haven’t won domestic trophies since a long long time ago, isn’t because we lost to Liverpool in 1974, Man City in 1976, Arsenal in 1998, Man U in 1999 and Man U in 2023.

Well it is of course true in a way, BUT the reality is, because we have only reached six domestic cup finals these past 70 years or so, none at all in 24 years until Eddie Howe worked his magic in 2023.

If Newcastle United start getting to Cup Finals on a regular basis then we will win some for sure.

It can’t only be pinning all our hopes on defeating Liverpool in two weeks time, the team who are currently the best in Europe.

As Newcastle United fans we need to be absolutely full on today, desperate to beat Brighton and excited to hopefully be only one more win away from another Wembley visit.

I fancy that if we get to the FA Cup final as well, then Newcastle United will definitely win one of them, maybe both!

We used to say we weren’t demanding a team that wins, just a club that tries.

Well we have got that now and as Newcastle United fans we have to be trying every match, giving it our all.

Giving us the very best chance of a team that wins, including in Cup Finals.
