For only the second time ever, Team K League picked up a win against the visitors from overseas, beating English Premier League club and current holders of the Carabao Cup 1-0. Not only that, but Team K League kept a clean sheet for the very first time in the Coupang Play Series or otherwise.
Eddie Howe was full of praise for the Team K League players, and Kim Pan-gon spoke of how he'd like fans to continue to watch these players when they swap the Zootopia-themed kit for their regular club threads.
Eddie Howe:
"You could tell that they have that sharpness and possibly the experience of playing in this heat as well. They're two huge factors.
"I always say during preseason games, you want the tougher examinations. You want the opposition to be of a really good level.... The game was really high intensity, quick restarts from both teams. We would have got a load out of that physically, which is what preseasons are for... "I think for us, we knew today would be really difficult."
Kim Pan-gon:
"I am proud that the K League players showed good performance and informed many places about the level of the K League. They played well without any injuries and brought joy to the fans. I hope the players will go back to their teams and show good performances."
"We had just a day to prepare, but I learned how smart and talented K League players are. I felt the strength of our players as they were able to relieve the pressure of their opponents. I think they will have courage and confidence."
So, with K League 1 returning in full this weekend, where can we see the Team K League stars?
Friday 8th August
FC Seoul vs. Daegu FC
Team K League: Hwang Do-yoon; Cesinha
With FC Seoul playing Barcelona the very next day, the capital club only had one player in the Team K League squad. Talented midfielder Hwang Do-yoon came off the bench for a 15-minute cameo, replacing Darijan Bojanic, and gave a good account of himself, looking confident on the ball and making some tidy passes. He's become a regular at FC Seoul this season with four assists in 21 appearances and will be expected to start against Daegu this Friday.
As will Cesinha for Daegu, who came on in the second half against Newcastle, wearing the captain's armband. Cesinha has five goals and five assists for Daegu in 13 K League 1 appearances this season; his form and fitness are crucial to any survival hopes the Sky Blues have. All-action centre back Caio Marcelo also played the second half but is suspended for this Friday's trip to Sangam.
As an aside, both teams played against Barcelona recently. Seoul lost 7-3 but goals from Cho Young-wook, Yazan Al-Arab, and Jung Han-min at least gave the Sangam faithful something to cheer about.

Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors vs. FC Anyang
Team K League: Kim Jin-gyu, Jeon Jin-woo, Park Jin-seop; Bruno Mota, Thomas Oude Kotte
Jeonbuk attacking midfielder Kim Jin-gyu was the match-winner against Newcastle United, calmly slotting in the game's only goal in the 38th minute. He put in another impressive display, showing himself to be every bit the full Korean international. Two other key players lined up for Team K League - skipper Park Jin-seop and Jeon Jin-woo, both of whom started against Newcastle. Anyang's Bruno Mota will, much like he did against Newcastle, lead the line. His overall link-up play showed that the Brazilian is very much the K League 1 striker, and will be looking to add to the nine goals he has racked up already. Thomas Oude Kotte, meanwhile, was a late call-up to Team K League but his bursting runs down the left when playing as a full back, or all-action displays as a centre back, have made him a fan favourite and will be key for Anyang in their bid to beat the drop.

Ulsan HD vs. Jeju SK
Team K League: Jo Hyeon-woo, Darijan Bojanic, Kim Young-gwon; Lee Chang-min
Now with a new manager at the helm, Ulsan HD begin the Shin Tae-yong era against Jeju and will do so with three Team K League stars in their squad. Jo Hyeon-woo played the first half and kept a clean sheet against Newcastle, while Darijan Bojanic and Kim Young-gwon came off the bench in the second half to make cameo appearances. Both helped Team K League stay on the front foot against the Premier League side. For Jeju, Lee Chang-min started against the Magpies and looked lively and, as he often does, was not shy to have a shot from distance.

Kim Dong-hyun and Lee Dong-gyeong both started against Newcastle. Lee Dong-gyeong got the assist for Kim Jin-gyu's match-winner, showing restraint from having a shot himself and instead slipping it into the path of Kim with a perfectly weighted pass. Kim Dong-hyun helped keep Team K League ticking in midfield as the underdogs looked to keep the tempo high, and will be looking to do the same this weekend as Gangwon try to get their pursuit of Final A back on track.

Sunday 10th August
Pohang Steelers vs. Gwangju FC
Team K League: Han Hyeon-seo, Oberdan, Eo Jeong-won; Jasir Asani*, Byun Jun-soo, Kim Kyeong-min, Lee Jung-hyo
Han Hyeon-soo may have been the Young Player vote winner but had to make do with a cameo off the bench against Newcastle. Playing in a less familiar left wing back role, Han was positive in trying to keep Team K League on the front foot and made numerous attempts to get the ball into the channels. He was joined by Oberdan and Eo Jeong-won, who came on for the second half.
Gwangju, meanwhile, had goalkeeper Kim Kyeong-min represent them and did so proudly, keeping a clean sheet in the second half. At the heart of the back four in the first half, Byun Jun-soo but in a solid display, maturing with each passing game. Manager Lee Jung-hyo was assisting Kim Pan-gon, and his tactics and instructions to players have received a lot of praise. Jasir Asani started and looked dangerous throughout, but whether he'll play for Gwangju again remains to be seen.

Daejeon Hana Citizen vs. Suwon FC
Team K League: Anton Kryvotsyuk; Luan Dias
One player on each team featured in the Team K League win over Newcastle, Anton Kryvotsyuk of Daejeon Hana Citizen and Luan Dias of Suwon FC. Kryvotsyuk's handball led to Jesse Lingard tucking away the winning penalty for FC Seoul in Daejeon's last match, so he'll be looking to make amends. The Azerbaijan international performed confidently and assertively against Newcastle. Suwon's Luan Dias, meanwhile, will have more expected of him now that Anderson Oliveira has left the club. Suwon are one of the division's in-form teams, though, and Luan Dias has been a key cog in the machine.
