Football League World looks at Norwich City's average home attendance this season and how it stacks up against the rest of the Championship

Norwich City have been backed by a strong home crowd in recent years, and Johannes Hoff Thorup will hope the Carrow Road faithful continue to turn out en-masse and play the role of the proverbial 12th-man in order to help his side towards the Championship play-offs.

The Canaries have enjoyed an uplift as of late following the return of star striker Josh Sargent.

Meanwhile, Borja Sainz's impending return from his six-match suspension, which will be concluded by the time Preston North End roll into town next Tuesday, will offer a fresh boost to a team with very real ambitions of securing a second successive finish inside the league's top-six.

Norwich have won their last two matches and will fancy all three points once again when managerless Derby County come to Norfolk on Saturday afternoon. The Canaries also have one of the stronger home records in the Championship, having lost on two occasions at Carrow Road this term.

But what is Norwich's average home attendance and how does it compare to the rest of the league? Football League World has taken a closer look...

Norwich City's average home attendance in the 24/25 Championship season

Carrow Road is often operating close to full capacity, which is testament to the quality and consistency of Norwich's home support.

The stadium has a maximum capacity of 27,244, making it one of the larger grounds the Championship has to offer. So it's impressive that empty seats - in the home sections, that is - are often so very hard to spot.

According to Transfermarkt's listed figures, Norwich have welcomed a total of 368,556 fans through the turnstiles, and this equates to an average attendance of 26,325.

Many away fixtures require serious mileage for Norwich and the volume of their support on the road has been called into question by neutrals, but at home, they almost always have strong numbers, even the atmosphere perhaps does not always match up to that.

For what it's worth, Norwich are currently averaging a marginally-better home attendance record compared to last season's 26,053. Norwich have had 26,000 supporters or more in Carrow Road on average in every season since the 2017/18 term - with the exclusion of the 2020/21 campaign which saw all games played behind closed doors, of course.

Norwich City's average 24/25 attendance compared to the rest of the Championship

Norwich's average home attendance of 26,325 represents one of the stronger returns at Championship level, although some clubs are eclipsing it at this moment of time.

It's the sixth-highest average home attendance, which is a very good return, all things considered. The caveat to Norwich only being sixth is that they could not be any higher, with all of the teams above them boasting larger-capacity stadiums.

Sheffield United, for example, have the fourth-highest average home attendance with 28,038. But that's already a higher figure than Carrow Road's maximum capacity, with Bramall Lane capable of housing up to 32,702 supporters.

The remaining teams - namely Coventry City, Derby County, Leeds United and Sunderland - are all massive clubs by Championship standards with considerably larger stadiums too.

But Norwich are still posting a higher average attendance than other clubs with bigger home grounds, such as Stoke City, Cardiff and Blackburn Rovers - none of whom are renowned for their home support in recent years, it must be said.
