Liverpool's clashes with Newcastle are synonymous with late winners.

From Stan Collymore to Fåbio Carvalho, the Premier League era has seen countless last-gasp goals that often helped tip the balance in the Anfield club's favour.

But the Reds extended the tradition to the North East as their see-saw battle with Manchester City for the title entered its critical juncture in the 2018/19 season.

JĂŒrgen Klopp's side twice took the lead at St James' Park only for their hosts to roar back and potentially gift the upper hand to the reigning champions.

Matters worsened when Mohamed Salah was stretchered off with a head injury which would rule him out of the Champions League semi-final with Barcelona.

Just when all seemed lost, the Egyptian's direct replacement Divock Origi cropped up to snatch the spoils and take Liverpool's challenge down to the wire.

It still didn't prove enough as City pipped Liverpool to the title on the final day but the win galvanised Klopp's side ahead of their last-four meeting with the Catalans.

They memorably overturned a three-goal deficit, courtesy of Origi's second-half winner, before claiming their sixth European crown at the end of the campaign.

Could a similar feat on Monday act as a similar springboard for the champions?
