It is fair to say that West Bromwich Albion, Stoke City and Sheffield Wednesday supporters will all have very different memories of striker Saido Berahino.

Berahino was regarded as one of the most highly-rated prospects in English football after making his breakthrough at West Brom, and he was linked with a host of big-money transfer moves.

However, Berahino's career did not quite progress the way many expected, and after spells at Stoke City and Sheffield Wednesday, he has somewhat dropped off the radar in recent years as his football journey has taken him to some slightly obscure destinations.

With that in mind, we looked back at Berahino's time in English football and explored what he is up to these days.

West Brom, Stoke City and Sheffield Wednesday all had different Saido Berahino experiences

After coming through the West Brom academy, Berahino had spells on loan with Northampton Town, Brentford and Peterborough United before making his breakthrough in the first-team at The Hawthorns after returning from the latter.

Berahino scored a respectable nine goals in 35 games in his first year of regular Premier League football in the 2013-14 campaign, but he took his form to another level the following season, netting 20 times in 45 appearances in all competitions.

While Berahino's comments caused fury among the Baggies' hierarchy, the club remained firm on their valuation of the striker, rejecting a £15 million bid from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2015, and they may have regretted not cashing in on him at that point as he experienced a dramatic decline in form thereafter.

After an eventful final 18 months at the club, Berahino's time with Albion finally came to an end in January 2017 when he joined Stoke for a fee of £12 million, rising to £15 million, but far from being a fresh start, his career went from bad to worse at the bet365 Stadium.

Berahino scored just five goals in 56 games during a nightmare two-and-a-half-year spell with the Potters, and after his contract was terminated by mutual consent in August 2019 following a drink-driving conviction, his former team-mate Glen Johnson slammed him for having the "wrong mentality" and the "wrong attitude".

After leaving Stoke, Berahino spent two years in Belgium with Zulte Waragem and Charleroi before making a surprise return to English football with Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 2021, but despite scoring nine goals in 36 games during his only season at Hillsborough, it was not enough to earn him a contract extension.

Berahino had proven the doubters wrong after his move to Sheffield Wednesday, with many pleasantly surprised by his commitment and work-ethic, and the decision not to offer him a new contract split opinion.

Berahino's next move took him to Indian side Rajasthan United, but just three months after his arrival, his contract was cancelled in November without ever playing a game for the club due to an injury he sustained in an accident.

That setback does not appear to have deterred Berahino from continuing to pursue his career, and he made a return to the game with Slovenian second division side Tabor Sezana in March.

Berahino has made a decent start to life with his new club, and, after breaking a two-year goal drought when he scored in the 2-0 win over NK Triglav Kranj in April, he netted a further two goals in his final two appearances of the campaign to help his side to a fifth-placed finish, but it remains to be seen whether he will be retained next season after they missed out on promotion.
