Albion frontman Daryl Dike has had positive words to say on Ryan Mason’s early days as West Brom head coach.
West Brom forward Daryl Dike has revealed that he has been left impressed with the early stages of Ryan Mason’s tenure as head coach, believing the 34-year-old is driving up new standards at the club.
The Baggies are making early preparations for the upcoming 2025-26 season, with Mason taking on his first full-time managerial post.
The Black Country outfit have already kicked off their summer transfer window business with the addition of former Liverpool defender Nat Phillips, while The Hawthorns is expected to be a busy place for both incomings and outgoings.
Meanwhile, the Albion squad returned to begin pre-season training last week and find out more about Mason’s philosophy and ideas for the team.
After working with the players for a small period of time, American frontman Dike has outlined his thoughts on what Mason has brought to the table so far.
As per the Express & Star, West Brom forward Daryl Dike commented on the impact Ryan Mason has had during his first week, believing his leadership qualities are shining through to benefit the playing squad.
Dike said: "He's (Mason) been great, I know coming into a new environment can be difficult but he's been great.
"He's obviously a good leader, a good person, you can tell automatically he expects us to work every single session, that's one of his things.
"No matter what, you've got to push yourself to have those habits, positive and good habits.”
Dike added: "Tactically, he's very good, he always wants to be involved, in meetings or the session, he's very precise.
"Having a gaffer like that is very important for us. When we have all those skills collectively it's exciting.
"On the pitch, of course, everyone is working hard with the new gaffer, trying to make sure they are on it. Everyone's being positive."
It’s a positive beginning for Ryan Mason at West Brom after Daryl Dike’s comments, and it will be relieving to know that he is driving the players to be the best versions of themselves.
It isn’t easy walking into your first full-time job and being the main man after several coaching roles behind a boss, but Mason appears to be taking it all in his stride and is very clear about what he demands of the players and the style of play.
The issue with predecessor Tony Mowbray is that he was guilty of giving too much trust to the players, whereas a microscopic working approach from Carlos Corberan seemed to get the best out of the team.
Whether Mason opts for that way of working remains to be seen, but there’s certainly a lift of intensity around the place and work ethic that the now Valencia coach had always pushed for.
If Albion can help get Mason the players that he craves over the remainder of the summer transfer window, then it could turn out to be a special season, particularly if the playing squad suits his way of playing down to the ground.
