According to a report from L’Équipe, West Ham United are leading the race to sign AS Saint-Étienne striker Lucas Stassin (20).

The forward was one of the rare bright sparks in the season for a Saint-Étienne side that went straight back down to Ligue 2 after earning promotion back to the top flight via the playoffs last season. Despite this, Les Verts are reluctant to sell either him or Zuriko Davitashivili, and will demand a high price to part ways with their assets.

However, it’s a situation which has no ward of suitors for Stassin. L’Équipe writes that in France, Lille OSC, Paris FC, Stade Rennais, and Olympique de Marseille have collected information on the striker, while RB Leipzig, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Sporting Club have all done similar.

West Ham have reportedly acted first and have sat down and discussed the financing of the transfer with Saint-Étienne and the salary demands with the young Belgian.
