West Ham United goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski could miss months of action due to injuries.
Hammers manager David Moyes has confirmed that the Pole fractured his cheekbone and eye socket on Saturday.
West Ham ran out 4-0 winners against Nottingham Forest at the London Stadium at the weekend.
However, it came at a cost as Fabianski collided with Forest centre-back Felipe in the second half.
Alphonse Areola replaced the 37-year-old and will be in goal until further notice.
West Ham have not decided whether Fabianski will be operated on or if the injuries will be allowed to heal naturally.
The former Arsenal goalie has started all the Hammers’ Premier League games this term.
Being without him is a massive blow for Moyes in his side’s bid to escape the drop.
The veteran goalie has been crucial to keeping West Ham up since he arrived from Swansea City in 2018.
However, the Irons have a capable cover for Fabianski in Areola.
The French goalkeeper has made three substitute appearances in the Premier League this term.
Areola has been a regular for West Ham in other competitions, with eight games under his belt.
The 30-year-old is widely regarded as Fabianski’s long-term replacement, and that job could start now.
Areola also brings plenty of experience to the table, having played 36 Premier League games for Fulham in 2020-21.
Unfortunately, West Ham are now thin in the goalkeeping department after Darren Randolph joined Bournemouth last month.
David Martin left last summer and Joseph Anang and Krisztian Hegyi have no first-team experience having not made their debuts.
