West Ham United have made contact with Olympique de Marseille regarding Elye Wahi (22), according to a report this Monday from L’Equipe. The Hammers would reportedly be keen to sign the France U21 on loan with a near-mandatory €25m option to make his move to London Stadium permanent. Les Phocéens are said to be in no rush to decide on Wahi as they don’t intend to part ways with him yet.
Wahi signed from Lens in a €30m deal but he is yet to justify said outlay. The former Montpellier and Lens forward is now Neal Maupay’s understudy in Roberto De Zerbi’s setup. Wahi has logged three Ligue 1 goals this campaign. He is tied with Les Phocéens over a contract set to expire in 2029.
L’Equipe understands that West Ham have made contact regarding Wahi in the context of Niclas Füllkrug’s serious hamstring injury. Graham Potter will also be without Michail Antonio for the foreseeable following his road accident. The outlet adds that Marseille have no intention of parting ways with Wahi, but the situation could change in the event of a market opportunity, and if Wahi does want to play in the Premier League.
