West Ham United saw their recent winning streak grind to a halt after falling to a 1-0 defeat against Newcastle United at the London Stadium.
Graham Potter’s side offered little going forward, although they fashioned a big chance but it wasn’t enough to extend their winning run to three games.
Having beaten Arsenal and Leicester City in their previous two games, Potter’s side came into this fixture brimming with confidence.
However, they failed to sustain their momentum as a second half volley from Magpies captain Bruno Guimaraes sent West Ham back to the drawing board.
The result leaves the Hammers stuck in 16th place on the Premier League table, while Newcastle are now two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
Alphonse Areola (7/10) – Made two smart saves to deny Harvey Barnes and one exceptional stop to prevent Max Kilman from netting an own goal, but not much he could do about Guimaraes’ volley.
Jean-Clair Todibo (6/10) – Put in an encouraging shift but still has plenty to prove.
Max Kilman (4/10) – Should have done better to prevent the goal and has Areola to thank for sparing his blushes.
Aaron Cresswell (4/10) – Put in a typical 35-year-old performance and was rightly taken off in the 70th minute.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka (6/10) – Did a decent job, although he came up against a weakened Newcastle left flank.
Tomas Soucek (5/10) – Should have put the Hammers into the lead inside 50 seconds when he skied a huge chance.
Edson Alvarez (4/10) – Struggled to establish a foothold in midfield. Carried the ball well, but his decision-making was awful.
James Ward-Prowse (5/10) – Hardly gave West Ham a combative presence in midfield was too easy to get past.
Ollie Scarles (7/10) – The bright spark in a rather dull team performance. A shrewd passer and diligent defender with a bright future ahead of him.
Jarrod Bowen (5/10) – Was anonymous for most of the game. Not his typical captain’s performance.
Mohammed Kudus (6/10) – Tried to make things happen but needs to be more clinical in the final third.
Carlos Soler (5/10)
Konstantinos Mavropanos (5/10)
Lucas Paqueta (5/10)
Evan Ferguson (5/10)
Danny Ings (N/A)
