Shelbourne FC is delighted to announce the signing of Wessel Speel on loan from Minnesota United, subject to international clearance.

The 23-year-old Dutch goalkeeper joins the Reds on a deal until the end of the 2025 season, subject to international clearance.

Speel arrives at Tolka Park from MLS outfit Minnesota United, where he has made appearances in both the U.S. Open Cup and MLS this season.

A commanding presence between the posts, Speel began his career in the Netherlands with Jong FC Utrecht in the Eerste Divisie before making the move to the United States to play collegiate football. He shone at Hofstra University and later Duke University, earning ACC Goalkeeper of the Year honours in 2024 with seven clean sheets and 11 wins in a standout season.

Minnesota United moved quickly to secure Speel’s signature on a senior deal through 2025, with options through 2027, recognising his performances with their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, MNUFC2, and with the first team.

The Dutch stopper now joins Shelbourne at a key point in the campaign as the Reds look to build momentum heading into the second half of the season.
