Arsenal have strongly condemned a group of individuals who were filmed making monkey gestures aimed at PSG players and staff in the aftermath of Les Parisiens’ 1-0 away win at the Emirates Stadium in the Champions League semi-finals first leg. Footage obtained by RMC Sport – and captured by the PSG team as they boarded the team bus – showed a group of five beating their chests and making monkey noises.
RMC Sport adds the group made these shameful shouts every time a black member of the PSG delegation passed them. The Premier League have released a statement to The Mirror, condemning these actions in the strongest possible terms. “We strongly condemn all forms of racism and discrimination. We are working to identify the individuals in the video and we will take the strongest possible action.”
PSG and SOS Racisme – a French anti-racist NGO – are set to initiate legal proceedings. Uefa may also hit Arsenal with a fine, as they did with Barcelona when two of their fans were arrested for making Nazi gestures and money chants in last season’s Champions League quarter-finals first leg against PSG.
