Germany’s 2-0 win against Denmark has given the players belief that they can go all the way, but Joshua Kimmich also urged caution following their victory in Dortmund on Saturday night.
Kai Havertz opened the scoring from the spot, before Jamal Musiala doubled their lead. But they were made to work for it after Nico Schlotterbeck and Denmark’s Joachim Andersen had goals ruled out when the tie was 0-0.
Speaking after the game, Kimmich discussed three key topics:
“The referee whistled for my block, but I don’t think he had to blow for it. Then the Danes scored which was blown for offside. We were happy to take that, of course, and after that we got back into the game. Then we took the lead a short time later but that didn’t give us much confidence. We didn’t play so much football, we just tried to defend. We did well towards the end and had a lot of chances.”
“We know where we stand and we know that we can beat anyone. But we also know that we can be beaten. We’re on a good run now and haven’t lost a game for a while. That gives us confidence, also because we know that we have guys on the bench who can make us better. We had good substitutes today too and that’s what makes a good team.”
“You could tell today that the fans were really there. Of all four games, I thought today was by far the best atmosphere among our fans. They were present, hungry, loud, and I hope that it will be the same again in the next game.”
