Ruben Amorim urged his Manchester United players to forget about the future and focus on the present after suffering another defeat.
United were beaten 1-0 by Spurs after James Maddison’s first-half goal, their 12th league loss of the season and Amorim’s eighth Premier League defeat in 14 games.
And asked about whether he has to “write off” the season at this point, Amorim responded: “In this moment it’s about more than that – the system, the idea. It’s about to survive.
“It’s to think about the small things, to improve the small things in this game for the next game.
“Don’t even look at the table, the schedule, nothing about that. Of course I have to because we have a lot of games and we have three competitions with a small squad at the moment.
“That part is my part but the players, everyone in Carrington, just focus on the next game, the next training and that is our goal.
Asked how frustrating it is that he has not been able to turn things around, Amorim said: “Of course, everyday, for us and our fans but we need to stop focusing on the big picture. It’s not the moment to do that.
“Just focus on the next game. Let’s do everything to win some games to finish the season and then think about the big picture.
“At this moment, it’s just about staying with the players, recovering the players and focus on what we have to do in the next game.”
United were without several key players for the defeat to Spurs including Amad, Kobbie Mainoo, Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Mason Mount.
Amorim was dealt a further blow this week with star man Amad likely to miss the rest of the season following an ankle injury in training.
“Amad is out for sure, I think until the end of the season,” Amorim said.
