Levi Colwill is confident Chelsea will respond well to their defeat against Fulham and has urged the Blues not to let their heads drop.

Chelsea slipped to last a gasp defeat to their neighbours on Boxing Day as they scored twice in the last ten minutes, including a 95th minute winner.

The defeat was just Chelsea’s third of the season in the league and it saw them drop to a third, a point behind Arsenal, whilst fourth placed Nottingham Forest closed the gap on the Blues to a point also.

There were shades of last season in the defeat and the Blues seemed to lack control at times and were hit on the transition a lot especially in the second half, something Enzo Maresca admitted he wasn’t happy with.

Both goals conceded were really poor from a defensive stand point, with Troy Deeney critical of Colwill, and the manner of the defeat would have really hurt the team.

However, there’s no need to panic and the Blues are still on course to qualify for the Champions League, something Alan Shearer believes they will definitely do.

Chelsea round out 2024 with a trip to Ipswich on Monday night looking to return to winning ways and Colwill has urged the squad not to let their heads drop.

“We have to keep moving,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“December has been a tough month, with a lot of games, and we have another game in three days, so we have to keep going. We’re not where everyone expects to be, realistically. We still have a lot to improve on.

The Blues do have a gap to fifth place, but they won’t want to allow it to keep getting smaller and smaller, and Maresca has suggested he will make changes for the Ipswich game.
