"We created chances, we recovered the ball well": Bauer speaks on Wolfsburg victory | OneFootball

VfL Wolfsburg interim coach Daniel Bauer spoke to the media after what was his second and final match in charge of the senior team.

Bauer was offered congratulations for his first win leading the team after last week's match was a 2-2 draw against Hoffenheim. He said, “Thank you very much for the wishes”, before summarising the team's performance: “I am honestly very excited about my team, about our team today. What an energetic performance they brought on the final matchday, they performed passionately. We made better steps compared to the Hoffenheim match.”

He added regarding the club's performance, “We created chances, we recovered the ball well; maybe we could have secured the victory earlier in the match, Gladbach flooded the box and they became dangerous with their crosses into the box - however, I still think our team deserved the clean sheet today, we brought a stable defensive performance.”

Regarding his next steps as a coach, Bauer will be returning to his head coaching duties with the U19 team when a new head coach for the senior team is selected. He was asked by journalists whether he is a contender for the main coaching position with the senior team after going 1-1-0 through two matches, with decent performances.

Bauer humbly brushed it off and said, “No. On Monday, I will return to the field with the U19 team. It will stay that way - maybe we will have one more day of rest, I think we will need a day of rest, but I still have a cup final with the U19 side, so we have not achieved our goals for the season just yet.”

He concluded by saying, “It was a very intense and very positive time with the senior team and getting four points, but we are remaining humble and, as a coaching team, we know that we are going back, now that our work here is done, so to speak.”
