The Spanish fans in attendance at the country’s meeting with Germany on Friday were sure to pay fitting tribute to the departing Toni Kroos.

As much, of course, comes with the iconic midfielder’s career having now officially come to a close.

After announcing his decision to hang up his boots upon Germany’s Euro 2024 campaign coming to a close, Kroos led Die Mannschaft into a quarter-final showdown with Spain.

A pulsating 120 minutes subsequently played out, with the 34-year-old having having seen out the entirety of the two hours.

Unfortunately for Kroos, however, he couldn’t quite do enough to push his side on to an eventual victory.

Instead, a last-gasp Mikel Merino header ensured that it was Spain who booked their place in the final-4 of the European Championships.

And with it, La Roja brought the curtain down on one of the most historic careers in recent history.

As Kroos gazed up into the stands for the final time as a player, though, he was provided with a memory which will no doubt last a lifetime.

As much came as the travelling Spanish fans, many of whom are no doubt of a Real Madrid persuasion, showered the midfield maestro with applause and cheers, in an altogether fitting tribute:
