Former AC Milan man Olivier Giroud finally bagged his first league goal for LAFC last night, finding the back of the net with a wonderful free-kick.

Giroud left Milan at the end of the 2023-24 season, in which he bagged 17 goals across all competitions, and signed a contract with LAFC. Many expected him to hit the ground running, seeing as he still managed to make a difference in Europe, but that’s not how it panned out.

Instead, the Frenchman needed 20 games before scoring his first MLS goal. Given just how beautiful the strike was, though, you could argue that it was worth the wait. Indeed, in the 3-3 win against Portland, he converted a free-kick on the edge of the box after hitting the underside of the bar.

Giroud didn’t take many free-kicks during his time at Milan but one springs to mind, when he hit the crossbar with a similar type of free-kick. In any case, it’s nice to see him score again and hopefully, he can continue on this path.
