Virtual Nonsense – “An absolute disgrace, shameful stuff”

Our club is usually excellent when it comes to the retail aspect of things, ie the Christmas film which was quite rightly praised last week, but this week they have embarrassed themselves by launching what can only be described as a ‘scam’ in order to make a bit of extra cash…

Pitched as ‘owing a piece of Paradise’ the Celtic FC shop has launched what it describes as owing a piece of virtual turf on the sacred Celtic Park pitch.

Buying actual bits of turf is one thing, but owing a virtual bit? It’s obscene and any supporters gullible enough to fork out the cash would be literally be handing their money over and getting absolutely nothing in return.

Surely that is not only breaking consumer laws, but more worryingly it’s shafting hard working people at a difficult time of the year, which goes against the entire ethos of our club and what it stands for.

Our club is in a very good place at the minute, and they’ve rightly been applauded recently for results on and off the pitch, but this ‘incident’ deserves to be investigated and criticised, as its not what we are all about.

It’s exactly the sort of behaviour you’d expect from the basket case of a club that plays out of Ibrox. Indeed if they had tried to pull this stunt we’d be laughing our heads off.

The best thing that Celtic can do withdraw this virtual turf completely, issue full refunds to anyone who has purchased and put hands up and say sorry for the getting it wrong. Luckily enough it all happened a few days after the AGM rather than before the support got a chance to talk to the board.

Poor old John Paul Taylor, the Celtic SLO, is in the front line of the wave of criticism and will undoubtedly not be slow in reporting back the overwhelming negative reaction to Michael Nicholson.

Some comments on social media…

The Free Rogic International. @CelticEnded2iar – “@CelticFCSLO Can we email the club over this? It’s a scam. Pure and simple. Taking hard earned cash off fans for absolutely nothing in return. Disgraceful. Paul B Lyons. @plyons45 – “An absolute disgrace, shameful stuff” Wee Nippy @WeeNippySweety – “Sorry but this is atrocious” Hargi @hargi_ – “Why do you always have to do (stuff) like this when things are going great. Delete this and refund anyone who has paid for it. This is honestly one of the most ridiculous things our club has ever done. Fleecing fans at Christmas.” BillyBhoy @billybhoy999 – “Read the room @CelticFC. This is a shocking play on the fans at Christmas time, if one of my daughters bought me this I’d be raging. The busted flush in Govan are potless, we don’t need to be thoughtless & ruthless. Take this nonsense down straight away…”

We could go on all day quoting these.

Hopefully Celtic will indeed read the room today and have this binned ahead of tomorrow night’s Champions League match at Celtic Park. Celtic’s retail operation is excellent but this is a rare misstep and a quick remedy from the club today will ensure that there’s no harm done.

Just an Ordinary Bhoy
