Every Madrid derby has a new story that has Vinicius Jr. as the protagonist. Whether for good or bad, he always manages to be a focal point and last night, he once again grabbed the spotlight.
Playing at the hostile Metropolitano, the pressure was even greater, as emotions ran high both on and off the pitch.
From the start, tensions were evident. The home supporters wasted no time in targeting Vinicius, seizing every opportunity to mock him.
The atmosphere reached a boiling point when the Brazilian stepped up for a crucial penalty that could have levelled the score for Real Madrid, only to send the ball soaring over the crossbar.
The miss sent the Atlético fans into a frenzy, amplifying their jeers and taunts.
Vinicius, known for his fiery personality, did not let the occasion pass without a response. His first act of defiance came during his substitution late in the match.
With Carlo Ancelotti replacing him in the 115th minute, the fans closest to the Madrid bench took advantage of the moment to continue their mockery.
Unfazed, Vinicius gestured back at them, raising his hands to display the number 15—a direct reference to Real Madrid’s Champions League triumphs.
The intensity only escalated after Real Madrid clinched victory in the penalty shootout. Watching from the sidelines, Vinicius erupted in celebration, sprinting alongside his teammates before turning his attention back to the home crowd.
He proudly tapped the badge that symbolises the club’s 15 European titles while shouting towards the stands. His message was clear, urging the Atlético fans to accept defeat.
To cap it all off, he made a final statement. Moving closer to the pitch, he pointed at the Real Madrid crest on his shirt and then at the stands, directing his attention towards the travelling Madridistas.
The gesture did not sit well with the Atletico supporters, adding yet another chapter to the ever-intense rivalry between the two clubs.
