Vinicius, Rodrygo react after Real Madrid 5-1 RB Salzburg – ‘Doesn’t matter who the MVP is’ | OneFootball

Real Madrid picked up a critical win over RB Salzburg on Wednesday night, propelling the team up the UEFA Champions League standings and taking them closer to a favourable knockout draw.

Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo Goes both netted braces on the night while Kylian Mbappe found the back of the net once. Only a late goal for Mads Bidstrup prevented them from earning the clean sheet.

Facing the media after his man-of-the-match performance, Vinicius Jr spoke on a plethora of topics but began with the unfortunate yellow card he received which will see him miss the next game.

“I had the feeling that I had not been able to play a good first half, with that card that leaves me out of the next game.”

“I think Rodrygo and Bellingham deserved the MVP too. I’m happy with the victory and the goals, even playing badly,” he added

Speaking on his new celebration routine and the inspiration behind it, he said,

“I always play with my friends and they asked me to do that celebration. I’m going to continue with it because I’m scoring more goals since I started it.”

He also praised his teammate Kylian Mbappe who is returning to his best version and even scored a goal against Salzburg.

“Kylian has arrived to help and we want to help him to be the top scorer of all tournaments.”

Finally, the winger praised Carlo Ancelotti for what he continues to bring to the table, saying,

“The coach has many years of experience and knows how to manage the team when we are bad. This group is very simple. We listen to each other and we are many young people who want to mark an era here.”

Also facing the media after the win last night was Rodrygo who scored a brace in the first half.

“It’s a very important day for us. I am confident and happy to score again and help the team. It’s been a special night,” he began.

Elaborating on the game that unfolded at Santiago Bernabeu and the complications of a UEFA Champions League game, he said,

“Champions League matches are always going to be difficult and we have to have today’s mentality: to score many goals and win.”

“This victory will give us a lot of confidence to continue with the challenges that lie ahead,” he added

Jude Bellingham provided both of the assists for Rodrygo’s goals against the German opposition and the player praised his teammate for the same.

“It’s very easy to play with him. It makes everything easier. His second assist was very nice and I’m delighted to play with him.”

Commenting on Vincius’ performance which won him the men-of-the-match award, the Brazilian said the award did not matter as much as the result.

“We all play for the team and it doesn’t matter who the MVP is. He also deserved it and has also scored two goals. We have to keep helping the team and keep winning.”

Finally, he had special words for the manager Ancelotti and how the team worked hard to support the manager through thick and thin.

“I will always defend the coach. Sometimes we go through difficult times, but we work hard not to go through them. This season we are failing a little in games that cannot be missed.”
