Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr. has aimed a subtle dig back in the direction of the group of Manchester City supporters who took aim at him during this week’s meeting between the sides.
The continental rivalry between Real and City of course saw its latest chapter play out on Tuesday night.
And, following a pulsating 90 minutes, it was the former who emerged on the right side of the result, triumphing by three goals to two.
The aforementioned Vinícius for his part played a starring role in Los Blancos’ win, credited with a pair of assists by UEFA.
This came despite the Brazilian having been afforded an altogether frosty reception at The Etihad.
Ahead of kick-off in Manchester, the home fans unveiled a banner, showcasing Rodri holding the Ballon d’Or, accompanied by the caption:
‘Stop crying your heart out’
This was widely construed as a dig at Vinícius and Real Madrid alike, over their respective reactions to the attacker’s Ballon d’Or snub.
With the dust having now settled on his side’s fine result on Tuesday, the subject of the banner in question was in turn put to Vinícius himself.
And the 24-year-old, speaking to Sky (as cited by Fabrizio Romano), made use of the opportunity to direct something of a jibe back at the supporters involved:
“The banner only gave me more motivation… they’re fans, so they can do what they want. Maybe they should focus more on chanting for their team.”
