Patrick Vieira is set to be officially confirmed as the new head coach of Genoa in the near future after the dismissal of Alberto Gilardino following the 1-1 draw against a Como side coached by former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas before the international break.
Vieira and Fabregas have plenty of history.
The Frenchman, who had represented Arsenal for nine seasons and captained them through their invincibles season in 2003-04, was eventually shown the exit door in 2005 in order to give more playing time to the teenage Spaniard.

Vieira would return to Highbury 10 months after his move to Juventus, starting in a Champions League clash away against his old side, which saw Fabregas score past Gianluigi Buffon from almost 40 yards out, as if to say ‘out with the old and in with the new’.
The pair also met up again in France, while Vieira was head coach of Nice and while Fabregas played for Monaco.
Before a game between the two Ligue 1 sides, Vieira reportedly told the Nice President: “This is the kid that made me leave Arsenal.”
Now they are set to meet up again in Serie A. Coincidentally, Osian Roberts also connects the two former Arsenal midfielders. The Welshman had served as an assistant to Vieira at Crystal Palace, and is currently assistant to Fabregas at Como.
Given that Como and Genoa have just played against each other, the next meeting will not be until April 27, 2025.
