Enzo Maresca made changes at half time in this game which saw him bring on some experienced players.
The idea behind that is to give them some confidence ahead of a massive game against Liverpool this weekend, and in one case at least, it’s worked a treat.
Nicolas Jackson’s streak without a goal was getting worrying until he found the net against Everton last week. In the blink of an eye, he’s added two tonight and is now on 3 in 2 and suddenly looks flush with confidence.
His first was an exercise in pure determination – he chased down a Cole Palmer pass which a defender was looking to usher towards his goalkeeper. Neither had the authority to deal with it, and Jackson simply stole it and rolled it in to the empty net.

The second goal was much more impressive technically. The impeccable Moises Caicedo timed a challenge on the edge of the Djurgarden box to steal the ball, he played it to Jackson, who took one touch to sort of roll it back out of a defender’s reach, then slammed it back across the other way with his second touch.
It was the mark of a player who is suddenly full of confidence – what a turnaround! Maresca himself said that Chelsea wouldn’t have a chance of finishing in the top 5 if Jackson and Palmer didn’t start scoring. Well, it’s mission accomplished on one front – can Cole grab one in the dying stages here to get him back on track after a 17 game drought? We certainly hope so.
