Barcelona’s dreams of reaching the Champions League final at Wembley came crashing down like a house of cards after Ronald Araujo’s fateful sending-off in the first half against PSG.

The Uruguayan essentially cost his side the match, with Barça going 10 men down and thus being unable to contain the PSG onslaught.

However, he was not the only person to receive a red card on the night, as Xavi joined the action too in the second half.

Seemingly making a habit of getting on the referee’s nerves, this was Xavi’s third red card of the season, having already served two suspensions in La Liga.

What did Xavi do to earn red?

It was evident the rising tensions got to Xavi and he was unable to hide his discontent with the referee’s decisions throughout the match.

Now, Movistar has come out with a clip showing some of the comments made by the Barça manager on the touchline that played a part in him getting sent off.

Standing on the sidelines, Xavi was spotted yelling “Your mother’s b***h”, “Don’t f*#& with me”, “Your mother’s b***h”, and “Come on, get him out” towards the referee.

The Barcelona manager even kicked a cushion meant to cover cameras on the sidelines, causing the referee to send him out.

Considering his crude language and criticism toward the referee, it is fair to say referee István Kovács had some justification to book him.

Xavi could be in trouble

Indeed, it has been reported that Xavi may face severe punishment from UEFA as a result of his antics against the referee both during and after the match.

Matters might be made worse for Xavi and he might face a stiffer punishment for the sending-off because he went back to the field and challenged the referee after the game.

In any case, Xavi’s sentence may be made public in a few weeks since the UEFA Disciplinary Committee is not expected to make a decision in the near future.
