We love to check out the training videos on Chelsea’s Youtube channel in the buildup to a game, it always gives you a bit of an idea of what the mood is like at Cobham.
After a poor run of results, Enzo Maresca really needs his team to get back on track, and a full week without a game should have helped, both tactically and physically. If he’s been planning any changes to his preferred setup or lineup, this was certainly the time to try them.
Of course it will always be hard to spot that sort of thing in a short video, but we were keeping our eyes peeled nonetheless.
Pedro Neto and Joao Felix played with a ball in the gym, and looked rather sad that their Lusophone friend Renato Veiga had left them this week.
You can see it all in the video from the club embedded here:
Aaron Anselmino fires one in near post in training.
One person who really featured heavily was young defender Aaron Anselmino, who signed for the club in the summer but was only recalled from his loan at the start of this month. There are plenty of rumours about him heading out on loan this month, but for now he’s been heavily involved at Cobham.
He’s there doing all the drills – and he even gets a big “yes Aaron” when he fires in a lovely near post shot in a shooting drill, and other appreciation when he hit some crisp long passes into the mini goals later on.
We wonder what sort of impression he’s made on manager Enzo Maresca? The coach puts huge stock in how people perform in training, and this looked like a great month for the Argentine to show what he can do.
