It’s yet another season deciding game for Chelsea, and they’ve made the best possible start.
Enzo Fernandez has kept up his brilliant run of recent form and scored the opener with just 2 minutes on the clock.
The move started deep, with a lovely little piece of play between Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia. Palmer pulled Curtis Jones with him out to the right wing, then spun back inside. Lavia had read his intention and played the ball right where Palmer was headed, leaving Jackson on his backside.
That was a reminder of just how good Palmer is in those moments which break a team apart, and a reminder of how much Chelsea have missed Lavia through his many injuries this season.
Palmer fed it to Pedro Neto, who surged down the right but kept his head and was able to pick out Enzo, who had made a great late run into the box. He had time to take a touch before stroking the ball home.
It adds another one to Enzo’s impressive number for this season, and it’s a nice little boost for Neto, who grabs another assist for his tally.

We say this every time Chelsea go ahead in a game like this, especially under Enzo Maresca, but they simply have to keep up the momentum. This Liverpool team are strong, but let’s face it, we’ve got so much more to play for.
We haven’t beaten Liverpool at home since 2018, so it’s hugely important we hold on and break that record today. This one means more than just pride and snapping our bad streak- there’s Champions League football on the line.
