Chelsea have travelled a long way to play this game against Astana – and they’re not going home empty handed. They’re 2 goals up after 20 minutes.

Marc Guiu scored the first – and it was a beauty.

He picked up a long ball wide right, took on a defender for pace and burst in behind, racing in on goal and firing past the keeper before the retreating defence could arrive.

Marc Guiu and Pedro Neto celebrate Chelsea’s second goal against Astana.

The second was a similar goal – this time it was Pedro Neto destroying a defender out wide for pace. He cut the ball back, and Guiu was arriving on the scene, fully entangled with a defender. The ball went in off one of them, although we’re still not really sure who. It’s gone down as an own goal, but it looks to us like Guiu touched it last.

Guiu gets big confidence boost on rare start

Guiu has had a relatively tough time this season – he doesn’t get many chances, that’s for sure. But he’s as willing a runner as we’ve ever seen in Blue, and we’re glad he’s getting a nice run out in this game. If we make it to the latter stages of this competition he will really start to get some meaningful minutes at last.

We’re not sure what the long term plan for Guiu is – he doesn’t look ready to be Nicolas Jackson’s main back up yet, assuming we make it into the Champions League next season. Perhaps a loan to develop him somewhere would suit him well?
