Just ten minutes after going 1-0 down, Chelsea are 3-1 ahead at the London Stadium.
When Lucas Paqueta banged one in from range early on it felt like this was going to be a huge test of Enzo Maresca’s team. Cole Palmer was ruled out in the warmup, and after a disappointing opening day draw against Crystal Palace, the last thing we needed was a defeat to a shaky West Ham team managed by Graham Potter.
The game almost swung back the other way when Niklas Fullkrug lashed the ball in, but VAR saved Chelsea and soon after the Blues had the lead themselves.
Joao Pedro turned creator, using his strength to find some space in the box before delivering a lovely chipped cross. Pedro Neto was on hand to finish after stealing in at the back post behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
It was a quiet game against Crystal Palace for Neto, and a quiet start to this game here. For all his hard work, the winger just wasn’t being supplied with the ball in dangerous positions. Let’s hope this changes things.

Estevao Willian bursts into the box to assist Enzo Fernandez.
Chelsea didn’t wait too long to add a third. This time it was full debutant Estevao Willian who got the assist, driving down the right superbly after Liam Delap played him in, then pulling the ball back for Enzo Fernandez.
It looks like Enzo is going to keep making those late runs and scoring goals like he did last season – that’s fine by us.
