CEO Beppe Marotta is set to take on an even more prominent role at Inter Milan when Oaktree Capital take over the club from Suning.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, anticipate that the US-based fund will hand the keys to the veteran former Juventus and Sampdoria executive as far as the day-to-day running of the club.

Marotta has been a central figure at Inter over the past five years and counting.

The 67-year-old has been the Nerazzurri’s CEO of Sport since late in 2018. That is when he was snapped up following his swift departure from Juventus.

During that time, Marotta’s fingerprints have been all over Inter’s transfer strategy.

Particularly since the start of the pandemic and the financial restrictions that it has brought with it, the former Bianconeri executive’s penchant for free transfers and other bargain signings has virtually defined Inter’s transfer policy.

Beppe Marotta To Have Even Greater Role At Inter Under Oaktree

Current Inter owners Suning and President Steven Zhang have been all too happy to grant Marotta a lot of freedom and responsibility at the helm.

The 67-year-old is someone with decades of experience and knowledge in football.

Therefore, Suning have delegated Marotta a leading role as the architect of Inter’s transfer policy. He has led a team that also includes Sporting Director Piero Ausilio and Assistant Sporting DIrector Dario Baccin.

Naturally, the prospect of a change of ownership could raise questions about Marotta’s role in the future.

Oaktree Capital are now on the verge of repossessing Suning’s shares in Inter – becoming the new owners.

But the US-based fund have no intention of making changes or butting heads with Marotta.

Quite the opposite, in fact. Oaktree will be very hands-off owners, if anything even more than Suning.

The fund will place their utmost faith in Marotta to guide Inter through the period of transition at the top, staying the course with maximum continuity.

The CEO has so far overseen a sporting project that has resulted in seven trophies and counting, with this season’s Serie A title crown. All while the financial situation has improved behind the scenes.

Oaktree would have no intention of upsetting that balance.

Marotta will be the figure at the very heart of Inter from one ownership to another.
