Versatile wingback Carlos Augusto is proving to be a real “wild card” for Inter Milan under Simone Inzaghi this season.
Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, hail the Brazilian’s usefulness in the Nerazzurri squad.
Augusto is not a fixture in Inter’s starting eleven.
Getting in ahead of a player of Federico Dimarco’s quality at left-wingback was always likely to be a tough ask.
However, that certainly does not mean that Augusto has not gotten opportunities.
Both last season and this time around, the 25-year-old has more than had his contribution to make.
Augusto really proved his worth due to his versatility last season.
The former Monza wingback was able to play as either an attacking wingback, or as a defender in the back three.
This helped Inter coach Simone Inzaghi manage his squad over a gruelling fixture list.
This campaign, Augusto has largely played in his natural wingback role.
The Brazilian has started matches in both Serie A and the Champions League.
Augusto did have a spell on the sidelines with a thigh injury. But he is currently available, and he has been having an impact.
Augusto scored his first goal for Inter in Serie A in their 6-0 rout of Lazio on Monday.
And the 25-year-old will be in the starting eleven for this evening’s Coppa Italia round of sixteen match against Udinese.
