USA, Mexico meet again in Gold Cup Final

MIAMI — The 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup concludes with the United States meeting Mexico in the Final on Sunday at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, USA.
The two neighboring countries meet in the tournament’s championship match for an eight occasion. Mexico has been victorious on five of those encounters with the USA winning the other two, including the most recent meeting at the 2021 edition.
The United States will play in its 13th Gold Cup Final while Mexico plays in the title game for a 12th time. Mexico is the all-time winner in the Gold Cup with nine trophies, followed by the U.S. with seven.
USA seeks eighth Gold Cup
The U.S. earned a 2-1 win against Guatemala in the Semifinals to return to the Final. A Diego Luna brace delivered the victory for The Stars and Stripes.
The victory extended an unbeaten run for the United States to five matches in the 2025 edition. Additionally, the U.S. extended an overall unbeaten streak in the Gold Cup to 16 matches.
The USMNT went 3-0-0 in the Group Stage to finish first place in Group D before tying against Costa Rica in the Quarterfinals to win on penalties. Matt Freese led the way with three saves in the penalty shoot-out.
Luna and Malik Tillman lead the U.S. with three goals apiece. Max Arfsten leads all Gold Cup players with three assists.
The USA seeks to win the tournament for an eighth time and first under current manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Mexico with eyes on La Décima
Mexico advanced to the Gold Cup Final for a fourth consecutive edition after a 1-nil win against Honduras in the Semifinals. Raúl Jiménez struck the lone goal of the encounter to collect his second of the campaign.
The victory extended Mexico’s unbeaten mark in the current edition to 4-1-0. El Tricolor defeated Saudi Arabia in the Quarterfinals after finishing first place in Group A.
César Montes leads Mexico with three goals and is tied for second in the Top Scorer race. Alexis Vega second among all players with 11 chances in the current edition.
Mexico is in the hunt for its tenth title to extend its record as the all-time winner in the competition. Manager Javier Aguirre is seeking his second conquest after coaching his nation to the 2009 title.
